Pyroll Packaging’s Winning Streak Continued at ScanStar Again This Year
Pyroll Packaging, together with MM Kotkamills, won a ScanStar award for a takeaway concept created for new Tammela Stadium and men’s football team Ilves playing in the first-tier Veikkausliiga.
ScanStar is an annual Nordic competition for packaging industry operators organized by the Scandinavian Packaging Association (SPA), which has a long tradition and has been organized since 1969. The competition is open to all packaging designed, manufactured or used here in the Nordic countries, and it is organized alternately by the countries of Finland, Sweden, Norway and Danish packaging industry associations. This year the competition was organized by Svenska Förpackningsgillet.
A total of 39 packaging innovations entered the competition, of which 25 were awarded. Ten awards went to Finland, eight to Sweden, four to Norway, and three to Denmark.
This ScanStar-winning packaging concept has been in use at Tammela Stadium in Tampere since this spring. The takeaway packaging series includes cups, two different-sized popcorn boxes, and a serving tray.
The design of the packaging series strongly supports the Ilves soccer team brand. The green and yellow designs certainly catch attention and won’t go unnoticed. The cups feature images of Ilves players, and they have even become collectible items among fans.
The packaging series uses easily recyclable cup and folding cartonboard produced by MM Kotkamills. The wood raw material used for the cartonboard is sourced from sustainably managed, certified sources. Recycling the packaging series is simple and cost-effective, as the cartonboards used do not contain a PE plastic layer that requires a separate separation process.
The ScanStar jury, made up of Nordic packaging experts, gave the following reasoning for the award:
“A modern packaging concept that includes a set of serving packages that are easy to carry to your place at the sports stadium. Great focus also on the recycling as only one bin is needed. Very attractive visual digital printing, which means that a fan can chose to save the packaging as a souvenir.”
The ScanStar awards will be presented at the Scanpack fair in Gothenburg, Sweden in October. Winning a ScanStar award qualifies the packaging for the WorldStar Packaging Awards, the industry’s world championship.
