The best ideas are the simplest! This is what the Scanstar jury thought when awarding the Scanstar 2015 prize to Fiskars Home Oy Ab Iittala Ruutu glass packaging manufactured by Pyroll.
It all started with the Iittala glass factory in 1881. Today, this success story manifests as a collection of timeless objects, which are designed to enrich people’s everyday lives. Quality, aesthetics and functionality have always been the cornerstones of the Iittala design.
Scanstar is a joint Nordic packaging competition, which the Scandinavian Packaging Association, the SPA, has organized since 1969. This year, the competition included 28 different packages, of which nine received a Scanstar.
Pyroll won the Scanstar with the Fiskars Home Oy Ab Iittala Ruutu-glass packaging. Diamond in likeness and shape, Ruutu is a collection of ten vases, which has five different sizes and seven different colours. Ruutu vases are manufactured at the Iittala factory in Finland. The vase designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec came up with the idea of the vase shaped packaging. The Ruutu glass packaging has been designed in collaboration with Iittala and Pyroll.
The best ideas are simple. According to the Scanstar jury, these packagings highlight the products themselves in a good way. The packages are well in line with the brand value of the products. These multi-functional gift packagings hold a great role in the retail environment. They are readymade gifts, and do not need separate packaging. The colours of the packaging are inspired by the products themselves and they support the colour scheme of the products.
